NCW praises Egypt's significant progress in women empowerment file

Chairperson of the National Council for Women (NCW) Maya Morsi said Egypt has made a significant progress in the women empowerment and gender equality files at the national and regional levels over the past six years.

Morsi's remarks came on Tuesday 2/3/2021 during her participation in the 2nd edition of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development, which kicked off on Monday under the rubric of "Shaping Africa’s New Normal: Recovering Stronger, Rebuilding Better" with the participation of African leaders, senior officials and heads of governments.

She attributed the advances attained in the women’s empowerment file in Egypt to the great support offered by the political leadership to the issues of women.

Morsi highlighted Egypt's experience in countering the negative repercussions of the coronavirus outbreak, noting that such a crisis showed the great roles played by Egyptian women at all levels.

The NCW head pointed out that Egypt launched the 2030 national strategy for women empowerment in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.

This strategy, approved by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in 2017, is aimed at empowering women in the political, economic and social areas, as well as protecting them from all forms of violence, Morsi said.
