Transport Minister Kamel el Wazir Monday witnessed the inking of a memorandum of understanding between the Land Transport Regulatory Authority (LTRA) and an international consortium to outline feasibility studies to establish an express system for certain buses traveling on the Ring Road around Greater Cairo.

Wazir said this step is in line with directives by the political leadership in Egypt to expand in establishing modern transport networks.

It would be the first time for Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) to operate in Egypt, the Ring Road around Greater Cairo in particular, the minister made it clear.

Wazir stressed the need to quickly finalize those studies for implementation to start, noting that this project would help Egypt cope with an ever growing demand for means of transportation, especially when the government is relocated to the New Capital.
