Ministry of Agriculture Spokesman Mohamed el-Qersh stressed the State's arduous efforts in support of farmers in the various villages across Egypt.
In statements to Extra news TV Sunday, the agriculture official highlighted the government's measures to ensure all ministry of agriculture subsidized supplies reach eligible farmers.
"The Egyptian State has channelled EGP 7 bn into supporting the fertilizers file over the past 3 years," said the spokesman.
He added that the ministry has embarked upon launching a farmer subsidy program; issuing farmers electronic smart cards to ensure equal distribution of subsidies, in line with digitalizing the agricultural sector.
El-Qersh highlighted Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Al-Sayed el-Quseir directives on this score, with a view to helping farmers receive their allocated quota of fertilizers and seeds.
Each card bears the farmer's name, identity information and agricultural landholding numbers, thus building a vast database for farmers and cultivated land.
As for contract farming, he said the pre-paid harvest system has already been put into effect and applied to a number of crops including sugar cane, beet and wheat.
