Saturday، 04 December 2021 - 10:48 PM

Representative of the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) in Egypt Frederica Meijer and Canadian Ambassador in Cairo Louis Domas visited Saturday Al Husinat Youth Center in Luxor to keep abreast of the events and activities of the center's Population Awareness Club.

Director of the Central Administration for Training and Projects at the Youth and Sports Ministry Ismail El-Far and Director General of the ministry’s Youth Education Administration Manal Gamal received the diplomats, along with a host of senior officials of the governorate and the ministry.

El-Far stressed the great attention the ministry pays to Population Awareness Club (PACs) at the ministry's youth centers to raise young people's awareness of population issues, including adolescent health, FMG, early marriage, reproductive health, upbringing of children and protecting them against violence, in line with the National Population Strategy (2015-2030).

After playing a short documentary on the events and activities of the ministry's PACs in 17 governorates nationwide, the diplomats had a meeting with a number of female club volunteers.

The visit falls within the framework of the ministry's cooperation with the UN body and the Development Consultancy Institute (Etijah) to support youth engagement in population-related issues.

In 2014, Etijah started working with UNFPA and the youth and sports ministry to engage youth centers to adopt different population issues awareness-raising including family planning and sexual and reproductive health to be among the main activities of youth centers.

The goal of the PACs is to mobilize thousands of young Egyptian boys and girls in urban and rural areas to take an active part in addressing developmental challenges and to promote aspirational goals of Egypt Vision 2030.
