National project to develop Egyptian rural

The Egyptian Villages Development Project is a part of the "Decent Life" initiative
launched by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on January 2, 2019 to improve standard of life for the needy classes of people nationwide.

The project aims to urgently improve the quality of life for the citizens of the Egyptian countryside through the development of 4584 villages, representing 58% of the total population of the Republic, at an estimated cost of 515 billion pounds.

The project seeks to provide an integrated package of services, including the
following:

- Utilities and infrastructure services (roads and transportation - sewage and drinking water - electricity and public lighting - natural gas - development of local units - youth and sports - health and education services).

- Economic development and job opportunities (establishing industrial complexes - vocational rehabilitation - providing projects with economic returns - employing villagers to build their homes - recycling waste - agricultural and fisheries development).

- Social activities and providing decent housing (literacy and education - decent housing - awareness campaigns, cultural and sports, psychological and social rehabilitation - bride preparation and debt payment).

- The first phase of the project targeted to develop the most needy villages with a total of 375 rural communities, including 4.5 million beneficiaries with a total investment of 13.5 billion pounds to implement 2,180 projects.

About 600 projects have been completed, and 1,580 projects are under construction.

- The second phase of the project aims to develop all rural centers with a total of 4,209 villages, in addition to 30,900 (center - manor - village).

- The project is being implemented with a total investment of EGP 500 billion for 50 million of people.

- The project begins with developing the poorest centers nationwide as an urgent stage. About 50 centers over 20 governorates will be developed, including 1391 villages, in addition to 11,087 farms and their extensions, with a total investment of EGP150 billion. Around 18 million of people will benefit from the project.
