Friday، 01 July 2022 - 02:15 PM

Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad discussed with Portuguese Minister for the Environment and Climate Action Duarte Cordeiro boosting bilateral cooperation in the environment domain at the national and international levels.

This came on the sidelines of her participation in the 2022 UN Ocean Conference, which is held in Lisbon, Portugal, under the rubric of "Save our Ocean, Protect our Future."

Fouad congratulated the Portuguese government on organizing the conference as one of the landmark steps in environmental action, particularly in light of the outcome of International Conference "Stockholm+50" and the fifth United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) in raising ambition about scenarios in facing the crisis of climate change, biodiversity and pollution reduction.

During their meeting, Fouad reviewed efforts to address impacts of climate change and the threat of severe climatic conditions to local communities, particularly those near the coasts, where the sea level rise, which is caused primarily by two factors related to global warming, this matter is one of the most important challenges facing many countries, including Egypt.

She further noted that Egypt has prepared a number of projects emanating from the National Climate Change Strategy 2050, as a key to the road to COP27. It aims at producing 10 gigawatts of renewable energy, including wind and solar energy, and linking it to water and food, she said.
