Deputy Housing Minister Sayyed Ismail had talks on Monday with representatives of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Cairo University and Japan's Gifu University.

The talks tackled means of enhancing cooperation with Egypt and the efforts exerted by the Housing Ministry to support a research team working on a project for reducing energy consumption and cutting greenhouse gas emissions of water desalination stations.

Ismail said the main goal of the project is to reduce cost, energy consumption and carbon emissions in addition to protecting the environment.

Egypt seeks to transform and localize modern technology for water desalination and relevant industries within the framework of a strategic plan for desalinating water, he said.

The first stage started in 2017 with a total capacity of 1.3 million cubic meters per day, while the second stage at a total capacity of 8.85 million cubic meters per day.

The strategic plan focuses on 11 governorates; North Sinai, South Sinai, Matrouh, Red Sea, Kafr el Sheikh, Suez, Ismailia, Port Said, Beheira, Dakahlia and Alexandria.
