President Abdel Fattah El Sisi directed the government to work for maximizing yacht tourism in Egypt and implement an integrated strategy for building international marinas and berths along the state's coastal line, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli said on Sunday.

Madbouli made the remarks during a meeting to follow up the efforts underway to promote yacht tourism in Egypt, in the presence of Minister of Transportation Kamel El Wazir, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities Assem El Gazzar, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Osama Rabie and Head of the Maritime Transport Sector Reda Ismail.

Briefing the premier on the outcome of the activities of the supreme ministerial council tasked with laying out a strategy to maximize yacht tourism, Wazir said a single digital window for foreign yachts was launched early this month, pursuant to Prime minister Decree No. 2721 of 2022 concerning the issuing a bylaw to regulate foreign yacht tourism.

Wazir also reviewed a blueprint of proposed locations of international marinas nationwide.

Meanwhile, Ismail said the digital window will enable yacht owners or their representatives to register all required data related to their watercraft, its passengers, submit necessary documents and voyage program, and specify arrival time and port of call, which will then be reviewed by the authorities concerned before publishing their approval on the sector's official web portal.

He noted that the bill, issued for any foreign yacht, will be settled electronically via the digital window.

Outlining SCA strategy for promoting yacht tourism, Rabie said the strategy involves upgrading the three yacht marinas along the Suez Canal coast in Port Said, Ismailia, and Suez by increasing marinas' operational capacity, and embracing digital transformation for better crossing experience and more efficient utilities and services.

Rabie also reviewed a group of designs for building the first green marina in Egypt.

Planned to be powered by renewable energy, the new marina will occupy 25,000 square meters to accommodate about 65 yachts, noted the SCA chief.
