Tuesday، 18 October 2022 - 11:13 PM

Egypt's Dar al-Ifta 7th International Conference of Fatwa Authorities Worldwide launched a "Fatwa charter for combating climate change," which is based on Islamic morals and values as well as jurisprudential principles.

In his remarks about the charter during the closing session of the conference, which kicked off on Monday under the theme: "Fatwa and Sustainable Development Goals," Palestinian Grand Mufti of Al-Quds (Jerusalem) Muhammad Hussein said the charter is launched just a few days ahead of the global climate summit, COP27, which Egypt will be hosting near Mount Moussa in Sharm El Sheikh next month.
The charter demonstrates that the general secretariat of Fatwa Authorities Worldwide is well aware of its responsibility and how it can contribute to addressing the climate change problem, noted the senior clergyman.
Hussein added that the charter urges all parties to abide by any laws and conventions aimed at reducing the risks of climate change.
He concluded his remarks by urging the international community to live up to its responsibility and play its role to deal with climate change, a threat to all humankind, taking into account equitable sharing of climate responsibility in proportion to the volume of damage caused by each party.
Scholars and Muftis from 90 countries attended the religious event along with representatives of the United Nations and the World Health Organization.
