political relations

The history of relations between Egypt and Canada dates back to the establishment of the first diplomatic representation between them in 1954, where Canada gained a prominent position in Egypt for the first time with its successful intervention in the Suez crisis in 1956 through the pivotal role played by the then Canadian Foreign Minister "Lester Pearson" in ending the Suez crisis and the deployment of the United Nations Emergency Force in Sinai, a role for which "Pearson" won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1957. Members of its armed forces also participate in the United Nations peacekeeping force "multinational peacekeeping force" and serve in the Sinai Peninsula.

Egyptian-Canadian relations were characterized by positive, as the two countries are keen to strengthen these relations in many political, economic and educational fields, and their relations are characterized by coordination and consultation on issues of common interest, as well as issues of international and regional dimension, especially Middle East issues, including the Arab-Israeli conflict, in which Cairo plays a pivotal role, as there is an annual mechanism for political consultation between the ministries of foreign affairs in the two countries at the level of the minister's assistants, in addition to that, there is a cooperation program between the Diplomatic Institute In the ministries of foreign affairs of the two countries, diplomats visit annually between Cairo and Ottawa with the aim of strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

Stations of political relations

On 2/3/2023, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with Melanie Jolie, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting held in India.The two sides discussed visions and opinions on the most prominent regional and international issues, including the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, and its repercussions on developing countries, in addition to the Middle East peace process.

On 2/3/2023, political consultations were held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs between Egypt and Canada, during which the Egyptian side was chaired by Ambassador Dr. Hazem Fahmy, Assistant Foreign Minister for American Affairs, and from the Canadian side, Sandra McCardell, Assistant Canadian Deputy Foreign Minister for European Affairs and the Middle East, the consultations touched on the overall bilateral relations between the two countries, where the two sides discussed developments in the field of political relations, the two sides also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues, including developments in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the Renaissance Dam, Libya and Syria,  and the Russian-Ukrainian war, in addition to addressing the issue of food security, climate change and energy.

 On 2/8/2022, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, Ambassador of Egypt to Canada, met with the Canadian Minister of International Development, Harjit Sagan, and the two sides reviewed ways to deal with development and economic challenges at the international and regional levels, especially in light of the successive international crises such as the Corona pandemic and the war in Ukraine resulting from an economic slowdown in various regions of the world, and many challenges in terms of energy and food security.

On 27/4/2022, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received a phone call from Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Jolie, the two sides discussed ways to advance and develop cooperation relations between Egypt and Canada in many fields, as well as the latest developments on the international and regional arenas, the call touched on all regional and international issues of common interest.

On 16/11/2021, Ambassador Ahmed Abou Zeid, Ambassador of Egypt to Canada, received Greg Fergus, Member of the Canadian House of Commons, Vice President of the Canadian/African Parliamentary Friendship Association and a member of the Association of Afro-Canadian MPs, the two sides discussed ways to enhance Canada-Africa relations, and listened to Egypt's assessment of the challenges facing the continent and how to cooperate between the two countries in order to support African issues and priorities.

On 19/2/2021, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, Ambassador of Egypt to Canada, met, via video conference, with MP Sven Spingman, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and International Development Committee of the Canadian House of Commons, within the framework of communicating with various decision-making circles in Canada to enhance Egyptian-Canadian bilateral relations in all fields, and explain the Egyptian vision towards regional issues.

On 26/1/2021, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, Ambassador of Egypt to Canada, met via video conference with Jacqueline O'Neill, Ambassador of Canada for Women, Peace and Security, to discuss preparations for Canada's participation in the second edition of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development, the meeting dealt with the future of cooperation between Canada and Egypt in implementing the National Action Plan for Women, Peace and Security, in addition to cooperation within the framework of the United Nations Peacebuilding Commission.

On 5/11/2020, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, Ambassador of Egypt to Canada, met with the Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and International Development Committee of the Canadian House of Commons and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Shadow Government, "Michael Chung", where the meeting witnessed a lengthy discussion on the developments in the Arab region, and the Canadian positions towards it, where Ambassador Abu Zeid was keen to answer the Canadian MP's inquiries regarding the developments of the Renaissance Dam negotiations, the situation in Libya, the Palestinian issue, Egyptian-African relations, as well as efforts to combat terrorism and extremist ideology.

On 24/7/2020, in a first of its kind, the world-famous Niagara Falls were decorated with the colors of the Egyptian flag, on July 23, on the occasion of the National Day of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the feast of the glorious July 23 revolution.

On 24/6/2020, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, during which they discussed a number of files related to the regional situation of common interest, as well as efforts to combat the phenomena of terrorism, extremist ideology and illegal immigration, in addition to ways to enhance the existing coordination between the two countries in many international forums within the framework of mutual interest in promoting international peace and security.

On 21/2/2020, Ahmed Abu Zeid, Egypt's ambassador to Canada, met with the parliamentary secretary of the Canadian Prime Minister, "Omar Al-Ghabra", Abu Zeid explained that he sensed from the Canadian official the interest and keenness to support the Canadian-Egyptian relations, and build on the intensity witnessed in recent months in the level of visits and mutual meetings between officials in the two countries.

On 8/2/2020, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, at his residence in Addis Ababa, on the sidelines of the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, the meeting reviewed ways to advance bilateral relations between the two countries, especially in the fields of cooperation in the fields of combating terrorism and extremist ideology, and discussed a number of files related to the regional situation and ways to reach political solutions to the crises in the region.

On 10/9/2019, a delegation of the Center for Israeli and Jewish Affairs in Canada visited Egypt, received by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and the two sides discussed the latest developments in the Middle East peace process.

On 20/5/2019, George Fury, President of the Canadian Senate, and his accompanying delegation visited Egypt, and was received by Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the two sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries, and the meeting also dealt with the overall challenges related to crises in the region and their impact on the situation in Egypt, foremost of which is the situation in the Libyan arena.

On 25/5/2016, Stephane Dion, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, visited Egypt, met with Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the two sides discussed all aspects of bilateral relations, in addition to the regional situation in the Middle East, as well as counter-terrorism efforts in light of the two countries' membership in the international coalition against ISIS.

On 15/1/2015, Canadian Foreign Minister John Bird visited Egypt, received by Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, the two sides discussed ways to support cooperation in the field of security and combating terrorism between the two countries. 

On 21/11/2014, the Canadian Deputy Foreign Minister visited Egypt to attend the work of the Political Consultations Committee between Egypt and Canada, the consultations dealt with a number of regional issues and topics of common interest, especially the developments in the Palestinian territories and efforts to resume the peace process in addition to the latest developments in Iraq, as well as the latest developments in political relations between the two countries .

On 23/9/2014, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with his Canadian counterpart John Baird on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, and they consulted on a number of regional issues, foremost of which were the developments in the Gaza Strip and ways to revive negotiations to reach a comprehensive settlement and the situation in Libya, Iraq and Syria, as well as addressing the issue of terrorism and ways to confront it .

Economic relations

The volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Canada in July 2020 reached $ 1.7 billion and is expected to continue to increase because of the interdependence and cooperation between the two countries considering the recovery of the Egyptian economy.

In addition to raw gold, Egypt's main exports to Canada include chemicals and fertilizers, carpets and floor coverings, and petroleum products.

The most important Egyptian imports from Canada are iron scrap, iron ores, soybeans, wheat, dried legumes, aircraft, paper and cardboard, wood, and dairy products.

Joint investments between Egypt and Canada:

Four Canadian companies operate in the field of communications and information technology: NTG  Egypt,  Technology Egypt, sae,Cloud Niners Information System and Inktank Communications LLC.

One company is working in the field of mining in Egypt, Alexander Nubia Company, and another company, Z Gold Investment Company in Egypt, is currently being consulted, and the two companies are working in the field of gold exploration.

The Canadian companies Agrium and Methanex are working in the Agrium-MOPCO and Methanex projects in Damietta in the field of producing fertilizers, urea and ethanol.

Milestones of economic relations between the two countries

On 14/8/2022, a high-level Canadian delegation that included Hargin Sagan, Minister of International Development, and his deputy, Christopher McLennan, visited Egypt, and was received by Foreign Minister ‫Sameh Shoukry, the two sides discussed opportunities to enhance development cooperation between the two countries in various fields, in addition to ways to deal with development and economic challenges at the international and regional levels.

On 28/5/2022, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with the delegation of the Egyptian-Canadian Business Council, praising the growing bilateral trade and economic relations between Egypt and Canada over the past years, pushing forward this cooperation to broader horizons, and stressing Egypt's intention to invest in its presidency and hosting of the COP27  conference to enhance partnership between the public and private sectors in order to achieve sustainable development and move towards a green economy, while discussing ways of cooperation in this regard with the Canadian side.    

On 10/2/2022, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, Ambassador of Egypt to Canada, met via video conference with the leaders of the Africa and Middle East sector at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Province of Quebec, within the framework of efforts to communicate with various Canadian provinces, to explore areas of economic, academic and cultural cooperation and promote Canadian investments with Egypt, the meeting witnessed a lengthy dialogue on ways to enhance economic, trade and investment relations between Egypt and the province of Quebec, especially in areas where the province has a high competitive advantage.

On 20/4/2021, Dr. Mohamed Maait, Minister of Finance, received Ambassador Louis Dumas, Ambassador of Canada to Egypt, and his accompanying delegation, the Minister said that we look forward to strengthening ways of economic and development cooperation and trade partnership relations with the Canadian side, in a way that helps maximize Egyptian exports, and encourage Canadian investments in Egypt, including "Egyptian securities.

On 29/1/2021, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, Ambassador of Egypt to Canada, met via video conference with Senator Peter Boehm, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and International Trade Committee of the Canadian Senate, the two sides discussed ways to enhance Egyptian-Canadian bilateral relations in all fields.

On 23/7/2020, Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, met with Mary Ng, Canadian Minister of Trade, where "Ng" confirmed that Canada is continuously keen to increase cooperation with Egypt in various fields, as it is one of the most important countries in the Arab world and the continent of Africa, noting that the Canadian government seeks to achieve an exchange of experiences between the two countries in various fields, including the economic field.

On 3/4/2019, Ambassador Ahmed Abou Zeid, Ambassador of Egypt to Canada, inaugurated the Egyptian pavilion at the CPMA  Agricultural Crops Exhibition held in Montreal, in which a number of Egyptian companies participate with the aim of promoting Egyptian exports of fruits and vegetables in the Canadian market. Ambassador Abou Zeid pointed out that the Egyptian participation in this important international exhibition is of great importance because it provides a good opportunity to promote Egyptian agricultural exports within the framework of Egypt's efforts to search for new markets and promote For Egyptian products abroad.

On 23/7/2018, Dr. Ezz El-Din Abu Steit, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, announced the success of the Egyptian Agricultural Quarantine in opening a new market for Egyptian agricultural exports of the Egyptian tomato crop to Canada for the first time.

Petroleum and Mineral Resources

On 20/4/2021, Eng. Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Louis Dumas, received the new Canadian ambassador in Cairo, the two sides discussed the measures currently being implemented to develop and launch the mining system in Egypt, in light of the distinguished results of the recent global gold auction, and the latest developments in the activities of Canadian companies operating in the fields of oil, gas, mining and petrochemicals in Egypt.

On 5/3/2020, Eng. Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, visited Canada to participate in the International Conference and Exhibition for Mining PDAC  in Toronto, Canada. Mullah met with Marie-Engy Embe, Minister of International Trade of Canada, and discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the field of mining, especially since Canadian companies have a long history in the field of mining.

On 5/3/2020, Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, met with the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Forbes Manhattan Group, Canada, Stan Bharti, where Stan Bharti confirmed his participation in the international bidding for research and exploration for gold and associated minerals in Egypt, pointing out that a number of geological experts traveled to Egypt to study various opportunities, pointing out that the Egyptian market has a promising opportunity in the field of mining.

On 5/3/2020, Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, held a session of talks with the Vice President of "Newmont Gold" for International Relations Nicholas Coates, the company's Vice President for Strategic Planning and a number of exploration and research leaders in the company, which owns the largest proven gold reserves in the world and is one of the largest companies owning mines in the world.

On 5/3/2020, Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, met with Rob Karsinooff, Vice President of Barrick Gold Company for Research and Exploitation, which is the first in the world in gold production and is listed in major stock exchanges in the world, where the meeting dealt with many topics related to the mining sector, the most important of which is the new gold auction, where Barrick expressed its interest in the Egyptian market in mining activities, which are expected to witness prosperity during the coming period.

On 5/3/2020, Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, President of Franco Nevada, reviewed the most important recent developments that took place in the Egyptian mining sector, the company's president pointed to the interest of global investors in Egypt's geological reputation, specifically the Eastern Desert region and the extent of development in the mining sector as a result of the program to modernize and develop the Egyptian mining sector.

Electricity & Energy

On 28/2/2016, a delegation from the Canadian American company Sky Power, which works in the field of generating energy from new and renewable sources, headed by the Director of Commercial and Strategic Affairs of the company, visited Egypt, and was received by Eng. Sherif Ismail.

Tourism Cooperation

On 9/3/2021, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, Ambassador of Egypt to Canada, received a bronze artifact of the god "Bastet" belonging to the ancient Egyptian civilization, in a limited number ceremony at the Egyptian ambassador's residence, due to the precautions related to the Corona pandemic, attended by senior officials of the Ministries of Heritage and Foreign Affairs and the Canadian Border Services Agency, and correspondents from major news channels in Canada. Over the course of many months to verify the antiquity of the recovered piece after it was detained by the Canadian Border Services Agency and to verify the illegality of its exit from Egyptian territory.

On 9/7/2020, within the framework of the activities of celebrating the Egyptian Heritage Month in Canada, the Embassy of Egypt in Ottawa organized a virtual lecture and a three-dimensional tour for the former Minister of Antiquities, Dr. Mamdouh El-Damaty, in the Saqqara pyramids area in Giza.The seminar, which was held via video conference, witnessed a three-dimensional presentation of the archaeological area of Saqqara and the Step Pyramid of Djoser, which was recently opened to visitors after a restoration process that lasted for several years, which was highly appreciated by the attendees.

On 14/8/2016, a delegation of inspectors from the Canadian Aviation Authority visited Egypt, the Canadian Aviation Authority praised the security measures followed by EgyptAir security on planes heading to Toronto.

Cultural and educational relations

The cultural and educational dimension is one of the most capable and rapid dimensions to access the Canadian society and the Egyptian community and to consolidate its relations with the motherland, which may positively affect the rest of the dimensions and relations of Egypt with Canada, and one of the most important tributaries of the cultural and educational dimension with great impact is the presence of more than 2000 university professors of Egyptian origin in all different disciplines, including those who reached the positions of university presidents and deputies.

The Egyptian government has cooperation and grant agreements with the Government of Quebec, the University of Montreal, the University of Waterloo, the University of Alberta, Prince Edward Island and others.

On 6/1/2022, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, Ambassador of Egypt to Canada, participated in the Christmas Mass held by the Church of "St. Maurice and St. Verina" and the Church of the Virgin and St. Athanasius, the largest Coptic Orthodox church in the Canadian region of Toronto. The Mass was attended by His Eminence Bishop Mina, Bishop of Mississauga, Vancouver and Western Canada, church fathers, members of the Egyptian Coptic community, in addition to the Premier of the Canadian province of Ontario and a group of members of the Canadian federal and provincial parliaments.

On 8/11/2021, the Egyptian novelist and journalist Omar Al-Akkad won the largest literary award in Canada "Scotiabank Geller" for his novel "What a strange paradise" that talks about the global refugee crisis through the eyes of a young child.

On 22/2/2021, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, Ambassador of Egypt to Canada, participated, via video conference, in the opening ceremony of the Canadian branch of "Ryerson" University in the New Administrative Capital, which was held in Cairo in the presence of a group of university professors and media professionals, and Dr. Magdy ElKady, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University of Canada - Egypt, and the Canadian Ambassador to Cairo, Louis Dumas, in addition to the President of Ryerson University and the deans of a number of faculties at the university who participated virtually from Canada, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid participated after the opening ceremony in a dialogue session with the President of Ryerson University, the deans of the faculties of engineering and communications at the university, and the Canadian ambassador to Egypt.

On 13/2/2021, on the occasion of World Radio Day, the Embassy of Egypt in Canada, in cooperation with the Cultural and Educational Office in Montreal, organized a special celebration and seminar under the title "Here is Cairo: Egyptian Radio Continues Through Time and Space".

On 21/7/2019, Ambassador Nabila Makram Abdel Shaheed, Minister of State for Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, visited Canada to participate in the activities of the celebration of the month of Egyptian civilization, the celebration program included a full of activities that will spread the Egyptian culture and multiple arts, the visit included a ceremony to raise the Egyptian flag for the first time in the Ontario Parliament in the presence of Canadian ministers and parliamentarians and representatives of the Canadian government, as well as holding cultural and historical seminars on the ancient Egyptian civilization moderated by the former Minister of Antiquities, Dr. Mamdouh El-Damaty.

- On 27/6/2018, Dr. Shawky Allam, Mufti of the Republic, received Jess Dutton, Ambassador of Canada to Egypt, and the two sides discussed ways to enhance religious cooperation between the Egyptian Dar Al-Ifta and Canada. Allam affirmed Dar al-Iftaa's full readiness to provide all forms of scientific and legal support to the Canadian government and its pioneering experience in the field of combating terrorism and dismantling extremist ideology.

During the period from 27 to 31 January 2012, it was agreed during the visit of Prince Edward Island Prime Minister to Cairo, accompanied by Dr. Alaa Abdel Aziz, President of the Canadian Provincial University, to establish a Canadian attached school attached to October 6 University that includes the stages of kindergarten to high school, so that this school is completely equal in its certificate to its Canadian counterpart and compatible with the Canadian educational system to also teach Egyptian social and religious subjects, as well as an agreement between the Canadian Provincial University And the Faculty of Education at Ain Shams University and the Faculty of Education at October 6 University to send professors from the Canadian University to both to train teachers.

Parliamentary Cooperation

- On 20/ 7/2020, the Ambassador of Egypt to Canada, "Ahmed Abu Zeid", announced the launch of the first Canadian/Egyptian friendship group in the Canadian Parliament, where the founding meeting of the group was held virtually in the capital, Ottawa, as well as the election of the group's president and six executive directors. Which Egypt enjoys in the Canadian political arena in all its spectrums.

Environmental Cooperation

On 17/10/2022, Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Foreign Affairs, President-designate of the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27), participated in the seminar organized by the Egyptian-Canadian Business Council under the title "Climate Change: Opportunities and Challenges".

On 14/8/2022, a high-level Canadian delegation that included Hargin Sagan, Minister of International Development, and his deputy, Christopher McLennan, visited Egypt, and was received by Foreign Minister ‫Sameh Shoukry‫, the two sides discussed coordinating efforts in light of Egypt's presidency and hosting of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change‫ (COP27).

On 21/5/2021, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, Ambassador of Egypt to Canada, met, via video conference, "Patricia Fuller", Canada's Ambassador for Climate Change, within the framework of efforts to enhance consultation and coordination with Canada on the most prominent environmental issues of common interest, at the end of the meeting, the two sides affirmed their aspiration for continued cooperation and coordination between Egypt and Canada on environmental issues on the international arena, especially with the upcoming twenty-sixth Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26).

Sports Cooperation

On 18/11/2022, Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Minister of Youth and Sports, visited Canada to participate in the meetings of the Board of Directors of the Executive Office of the World Anti-Doping Agency, Dr. Ashraf met with the President of the University of Ottawa, his deputy and a number of university professors and students, the meeting discussed the proposed ways of cooperation in the fields of youth and sports, and cooperation in the field of sports sciences, especially marketing, sports medicine, sports sociology and sports kinesiology.

Egyptian Community

On 30/11/2022, Ambassador Mohamed Fakhry, Consul General of Egypt in Montreal, visited the cities of Mississauga and Toronto in the province of Ontario in Canada, and the visit witnessed several activities with the aim of enhancing communication with the Egyptian community, at the beginning of his assumption of the new position in Montreal, Fakhry discussed during his meetings a number of consular issues and ways to support communication between the Egyptian Consulate General in Montreal and the members of the community in Mississauga and Toronto.

Social Fields and Human Rights

On 3/12/2020, Egypt's Ambassador to Canada, Ahmed Abu Zeid, participated in a meeting via videoconference with the co-chairs of the New Anti-Slavery Committee of the Canadian Parliament, to review the pioneering Egyptian experience in combating the crime of human trafficking. This initiative by the Committee came within the framework of its endeavor to benefit from the experiences of some countries in preparing a draft law to combat human trafficking in the Canadian Parliament, where the ambassadors of Egypt, New Zealand, Nigeria, Ecuador and Honduras were invited to an open dialogue with the co-chairmanship of the Committee.

On 15/6/2020, the Ambassador of Egypt to Canada, "Ahmed Abu Zeid", participated in a meeting via video conference with the Canadian Minister of International Development, "Karina Gold", the Canadian Ambassador for Women, Peace and Security, "Jacqueline O'Neill", the Assistant Deputy Foreign Minister of Canada for African Affairs, "Isabelle Perrar", and a number of ambassadors of African countries accredited in Canada, to review international and African efforts in the field of empowering women and providing them with protection during the Corona pandemic crisis, as well as reviewing the efforts of countries in implementing plans National action in the field of women, peace and security. Abu Zeid said that he briefed the Canadian side on the draft resolution put forward by Egypt in cooperation with a number of countries before the United Nations General Assembly under the title "Strengthening the rapid response at the national and international levels to the repercussions of the Corona virus on women and children", pointing to the pioneering role played by Egypt to convey the voice of vulnerable groups in Africa and the developing world to donor countries and organizations - including Canada - to enable them to face the social, economic, psychological and health effects of this unprecedented challenge that threatens The entire world, whose effects on those groups in particular are multiplied.

 Contractual framework

On 24/1/2020, the Arab Organization for Industrialization signed a contract for cooperation with the Canadian company Point North to modernize the SEMAF factory, develop production lines and train human cadres.

On December 12, 2019, a term loan facility agreement between the Egyptian National Railways and the Export Development Bank of Canada, in the amount of EUR 226 million.

On 8/1/2019, a cooperation protocol was signed between the Ministry of Finance and the Canadian Cultural Center for Educational Services and Training (CEC).

On 7/1/2019, the President of the Republic Decree No. (9) of 2019 was issued to establish a university institution named "Canadian Universities in Egypt" to host a branch of the University of Prince Edward Island inside Egypt, to be based in the New Administrative Capital.

In December 2013, Canadian company TransGrade solution  won the consultancy contract for the $1.6 billion Egypt-Saudi interconnection project, which aims to exchange 3,000 megawatts at peak times in the two countries.
