Political relations

The opening of diplomatic missions between Egypt and Chile was exchanged in 1958.

The two countries have a mechanism for political consultation at the level of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which held its last round of consultations in 2010.

A Chilean-Egyptian parliamentary friendship group was established in July 2015.

The solidarity between Egypt and Chile extends beyond bilateral relations to include cooperation at the international level as well, as Chile supported and welcomed Egypt's accession as an observer member of the Pacific Alliance (Alianza del Pacifico), which includes Chile, Mexico, Peru and Colombia.

On 17/10/2022, the Ambassador of the State of Chile in Cairo, Roberto Ebert, confirmed during the activities of the Ibero-American Week, which was hosted by Alexandria, Egypt's pivotal and important role  regionally and globally, saying, "Egypt is a pivotal country and its role is very important in the region", and he also stressed that the Egyptian role is recognized for its activities in all fields internationally.

On 12/4/2022, Antonia Orejola, Chilean Foreign Minister, received Amal Murad, Egypt's ambassador in Santiago, to discuss bilateral cooperation as well as cooperation to face the challenge of climate change,  and Ambassador Amal conveyed to the Chilean minister the congratulations and best wishes of Minister Sameh Shoukry to his  Chilean counterpart and to the government of President Gabriel Boric, and confirmed that the Egyptian government will continue to work with the new Chilean administration in order to deepen the extended and friendly relations between the two friendly countries.

On 22/2/2020, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received "Ivan Flores", Speaker of the Chilean House of Representatives, in the presence of Dr. Ali Abdel Aal, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Foreign Affairs. The President welcomed the Chilean parliamentary delegation, asking to convey his greetings to President Sebastián Piñera, and stressing pride in the historical depth of friendly relations between the two countries.

During the period from 22-29 June 2014, a high-level delegation of Egyptian officials visited Chile that included representatives from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Transitional Justice, and the Decision Support and Decision Support Center of the Council of Ministers.

Economic relations

Chilean exports to Egypt are concentrated in intermediate products of copper, in addition to foodstuffs such as fruits and fish products, and intermediate chemicals, while petrochemical products, textiles and carpets top the list of Chilean imports from Egypt.

The two countries are currently working to encourage the volume of trade exchange between them as well as investments, especially those of the Chilean National Petroleum Company (ENAP), whose largest branch outside Chile is located in Egypt.

On 6/6/2021, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation, met with Rodrigo Yáñez, Deputy Minister of Trade of the State of Chile, to discuss bilateral economic cooperation relations, and the activation of the Joint Committee for Economic Cooperation between the two countries, areas of common interest were discussed, especially at the level of small and medium enterprises and economic zones, in addition to activating the Joint Committee for Economic Cooperation between the two countries in its first session, and the technical preparations of the committee to identify points of cooperation between the two sides, which was welcomed by the Deputy Minister of Trade  in Chile.

On 9/11/2015, the Egyptian Businessmen Association held a seminar entitled "Trade and Investment Relations and Cooperation Opportunities" Ayman Kara, a member of the Board of Directors of the Association, stressed the importance of discussing aspects of joint cooperation with the Chilean delegation in all fields and benefiting from their expertise, especially in the agricultural field, pointing out that Chile is the second largest exporter of grapes in the world, and  "Salket" stressed that the volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Chile is very small and does not reflect the depth of relations between the two countries, as it is estimated at less than 30 million dollars annually, pointing out that his government hopes to double the volume of trade with Egypt by intensifying mutual visits, especially since the Egyptian market is promising estimated at 90 million consumers, in addition to being the second largest importer in the Middle East and Africa.

On 12/4/2019, the Egyptian Ministry of Agriculture is preparing to prepare a proposal for a memorandum of understanding between Egypt and Chile on technical and scientific cooperation in the field of animal production, fish farming and fish cages, and present it to Ezzedine Abu-Steit, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, and then send it to the Chilean side, for review by both sides in preparation for taking the necessary approvals in this regard in the two countries and signing it officially, this came during a meeting  Dr. Mona Mehrez, Deputy Minister of Agriculture for Livestock, Fisheries and Poultry, with Pablo Arrian, the new ambassador of the State of Chile in Cairo, where she discussed with him increasing trade exchange between the two countries in the field of animal production, and it was also agreed to exchange a list of agricultural and animal products in the two countries to enhance trade exchange and technical expertise in these fields and training, as well as the exchange of commodity shipments to reduce the cost of transportation.

Cultural Relations

Egypt contributed to the establishment of the Center for Arab Studies of the University of Chile in 1964.

A delegation of students from the Arab School in Sentago visits Egypt annually.

On 9/9/2021, under the auspices of Dr. Enas Abdel Dayem, Minister of Culture, the Supreme Council of Culture held in the secretariat of Dr. Hisham Azmy, in cooperation with the Foreign Cultural Relations Sector headed by Sabry Said, an evening was held «Egypt and Chile. Cultural Relations", within the framework of a cultural relations initiative organized by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture

 On 29/8/2020, Cairo University President Mohamed Osman Elkhosht receives at his office Ambassador Pablo Ararian, Ambassador of Chile to Egypt, to discuss means of cooperation between Cairo University and Chilean universities, in the presence of Cairo University Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research Affairs and Chilean Consul in Egypt.  Cairo in various fields.

On 9/11/2013, the Council of Graduate Studies and Research approved the proposals of the faculties of (Arts and Humanities - Tourism and Hotels) at Canal University in preparing for the fourth round of consultations between Egypt and Chile, and ways of cooperation between Egyptian universities and Chilean universities, under the auspices of Dr. Mohamed Mohamedain, President of Suez Canal University, and Dr. Mamdouh Mustafa Ghorab, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research.  The idea of opening the Department of Egyptian Studies at a Chilean university was put forward in the last round of consultations, and the proposals submitted by the Council from the faculties included the exchange of student delegations between the universities of the two countries, joint research, and seminars between the universities of the two countries, and joint supervision between the universities of the two countries.

Health Collaboration

During August 2016, a representative of the Chilean Ministry of Health visited Cairo to present Chilean expertise in the field of public health.

Water Resources and Irrigation

On 24/2/2020, the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Dr. Mohamed Abdel Aty, discussed with the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the State of Chile, Ivan Flores, and his accompanying delegation, to intensify and strengthen cooperation in the field of water and related activities between the two countries, on the sidelines of the current visit of the Chilean delegation to Egypt.

During the meeting,  the two sides explained the water situation in Egypt and Chile, where the head of the Chilean delegation explained that the water situation in his country was characterized by an abundance of water represented by rainfall that used to fall at rates of up to 2500 millimeters throughout the year, and this rate decreased to about 1100 millimeters in light of climate change, in addition to the fact that large areas of land suffer from the problem of desertification and drought, and that they hope through the visit Egypt can benefit from Egypt's experience in managing water resources in desert areas in light of Chile's current water shortage and its impact on agriculture and economic projects, especially vegetables, fruits, meat and wood.
