Diplomatic relations between the two countries arose in 1960 and Egypt and Ecuador established a mechanism for political consultations between the ministries of foreign affairs of the two countries, to periodically follow up on bilateral relations and exchange visions on international issues of common interest, and it was agreed between the two countries to hold the rounds of political consultations alternately in both the capitals of Cairo and Quetto.

Political relations

On 25/1/2023, within the framework of the efforts of the Embassy of Egypt in Quito to enhance communication with decision-making circles in Ecuador, Dr. John Argudo,  Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee of the National Assembly (Ecuadorian Parliament), Ambassador Tamer Mamdouh, Ambassador of Egypt in Quito, where the meeting dealt with ways to strengthen parliamentary relations and coordinate positions between the two countries, and interest in opening channels of communication and dialogue with the Egyptian House of Representatives to support Egyptian-Ecuadorian relations in various aspects,  and the Egyptian ambassador stressed the congruence of the political positions of Egypt and Ecuador in many international issues of common interest.

On 8/10/2022, Ambassador Tamer Mamdouh presented his credentials as Extraordinary Representative and Ambassador of Egypt to Ecuador, to "Guillermo Laso", President of Ecuador, in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and several senior officials of the Ecuadorian presidency and government.   The President of Ecuador received him and congratulated him on his official assumption of his duties, wishing him success in his mission. The President of Ecuador also praised the level of cooperation between the two countries in various international forums, and the convergence of visions between the two sides towards many issues of common interest. 

On 8/9/2022, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ecuador, "Juan Carlos Oljin", received Ambassador Tamer Mamdouh, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Ecuador, where he praised the distinguished relations between his country and Egypt, especially in bilateral and international frameworks. 

On 16/7/2022, the President of Ecuador, Guillermo Laso, received Ambassador Ashraf Abdel Qader Salama, Ambassador of Egypt to Ecuador, on the occasion of the approaching end of his term in Ecuador, and the Egyptian ambassador delivered the invitation from the President of the Republic to participate in the activities of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change COP27.

On 17/12/2021, the Vice President of Ecuador, Alfredo Borrero, received Ambassador Ashraf Abdel Qader Salama, Ambassador of Egypt to Ecuador, to discuss all axes of cooperation between the two countries and Egyptian endeavors to develop them in a way that achieves the interests of the two friendly peoples, and the Vice President of the Republic of Ecuador expressed his appreciation to the Egyptian government and people and its ancient history, and keenness to consolidate bilateral relations within the framework of the government's policy, which is Ecuador's openness to the world and the world's openness to Ecuador, and indicated his readiness to take the necessary measures to guide  All concerned authorities cooperate with Egypt in all areas of interest.

Economic relations

The two countries seek to activate bilateral trade exchange between the two countries, especially with the availability of real opportunities to enhance trade and investment relations between the two countries, especially in the fields of oil, gas, tourism, and transportation, whether passenger transport or cargo transport.

On 21/11/2022, Ambassador Tamer Mamdouh, Ambassador of Egypt in Quito, met with Julio Jose Prado, Minister of Production, Foreign Trade, Investment and Fisheries of Ecuador, in the presence of the Assistant Minister for Foreign Trade, the meeting discussed ways to enhance economic and trade relations between the two countries, in addition to discussing a number of proposals to develop investments and enhance the volume of bilateral trade, and ways to overcome the geographical dimension factor and study preferential trade arrangements, within the framework of efforts to open new markets for Egyptian products and attract investments  Prado  stressed his country's interest in increasing the volume of trade exchange with Egypt, as well as Ecuador's welcome to all Egyptian companies and investors wishing to invest in the Ecuadorian market in all fields, stressing the importance of relations with Egypt politically and economically as the gateway to the Middle East and the African continent.  

On 18/10/2022, Ambassador Tamer Mamdouh, Ambassador of Egypt in Quito, met with Bernardo Manzano Diaz, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock of Ecuador, to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the fields of agriculture, irrigation and livestock and update the treaty frameworks between them.  

On 14/9/2022, Eng. Ibrahim El-Araby, President of the General Federation of Chambers of Commerce and President of the Cairo Chamber, received the Ambassador of Ecuador in Cairo, "Rafael Ventimia", the Ambassador of Ecuador presented to Eng. Ibrahim El-Araby, the desire of the Chamber of Commerce in the capital of Ecuador Quito to sign a joint cooperation protocol with the Cairo Chamber aimed at consolidating bilateral trade and investment relations, which he agreed to study "El-Araby" in accordance with the legal and economic requirements in accordance with the plan of protocols that are signed with the chambers of commerce in different countries,  Eng. Ibrahim El-Araby stressed the importance of increasing cooperation and intensifying meetings between the business community in the two countries, and reviewing investment and trade opportunities in Egypt and Ecuador so that each party can determine its needs from the other party at the investment and trade level in various fields.

On 10/9/2022, "Juan Carlos Oljin", Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ecuador, received Ambassador Tamer Mamdouh, Ambassador of Egypt to Ecuador, where the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ecuador pointed to the importance that his country attaches to increasing the volume of trade exchange and mutual investments between the two countries.

On 8/6/2022, Ambassador Ashraf Abdel Qader Salama, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Ecuador, met with the President of the Quito Chamber of Commerce Carlos Luiza Montero and the new Executive Director of the Chamber Joan Frisch, as a continuation of the efforts made by the embassy to strengthen Egyptian-Ecuadorian relations and advance bilateral cooperation between them in all fields, especially in the field of trade and economic exchange.

On 23/12/2021, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ecuador, Mauricio Montalvo, received Ambassador Ashraf Abdel Qader Salama, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Ecuador, where they discussed ways to develop bilateral relations between the two countries, and reviewed prospects for bilateral cooperation between Egypt and Ecuador in the fields of tourism, health care, trade exchange, preventing double taxation and establishing special economic zones.

On 22/1/2022, Ambassador Ashraf Abdel Qader Salama, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Ecuador, met with the President of the Quito Chamber of Commerce Carlos Loaiza Montero, as part of a series of meetings held by the embassy with Ecuadorian officials to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries, especially in the field of trade and economic exchange, and the Middle East.

On 16/10/ 2015, the two countries held the first round of political consultations in the Ecuadorian capital "Quito" and during this round of political consultations the two countries stressed the importance of political rapprochement between them and the need to intensify and strengthen bilateral relations through political dialogue and cooperation in areas of common interest.

On 26/5/2014, the Egyptian Ambassador to Ecuador, Medhat El-Meligy, met with Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Francisco Ribadera to discuss bilateral relations and enhance economic relations between the two countries, and to search for the possibility of enhancing trade exchange, both sides expressed their welcome to enhance the cooperation of the two countries, especially since the relations between Egypt and Ecuador are limited to the field of agriculture, but there is a desire to enhance the economic field as well, especially trade exchange, as Egypt is the most important country in the Middle East.

Tourism Cooperation

Ecuadorians visit Egypt heavily within the framework of tourist programs to visit the Christian holy places in Egypt, Jordan and Israel, and the programs are often limited to Egypt and Jordan only or Egypt and Israel only, which makes Egypt the first destination for religious tourism coming from Ecuador.

On 12/1/2023, Ambassador Tamer Mamdouh, Ambassador of Egypt in Quito, met with Niels Olsen, Ecuadorian Minister of Tourism, the meeting discussed ways to promote inbound tourism for both sides, and discussed opportunities to increase the number of Ecuadorian tourists to Egypt to include cultural, religious, and environmental tourism. They also discussed the possibility of reaching a bilateral agreement for tourism cooperation within the framework of sharing experiences in the fields of rehabilitation and training of cadres and the construction of tourism facilities.  

On 14/3/2022, Ambassador Ashraf Abdel Qader Salama, Ambassador of Egypt in Quito, met with Ecuadorian Minister of Tourism Niels Olsen, the meeting discussed ways to enhance cooperation and coordination in the field of tourism between Egypt and Ecuador and benefit from Egypt's extensive experience in the field of tourism, especially sustainable tourism. During the meeting, the Egyptian ambassador also pointed out the importance of identifying the potential of the two countries in the field of tourism, reviewing the most prominent tourist destinations in Egypt, which enjoy unique cultural, historical, and geographical diversity, in addition to the extensive experience that Egypt enjoys it in the field of tourism, promotion and management of archaeological and tourist sites.

Cultural cooperation

On 21/8/2022, Dr. Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa, Minister of Endowments, received Ambassador Tamer Mamdouh, Ambassador of Egypt to Ecuador, at the General Office of the Ministry of Endowments in Cairo, and during the meeting, the Minister of Endowments briefed the two ambassadors on the efforts of the Ministry of Endowments to spread internationally enlightened centrist thought, correct misconceptions, dismantle extremist thought, and training courses at the International Endowments Academy.

On 20/10/2021, the Ambassador of Ecuador in Cairo, Rafael Bentimea, confirmed during the activities of the Ibero-American Cultural Week, which was launched in the presence of the Governor of Alexandria Mohamed El-Sherif, Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister for Latin American Affairs Ashraf Mounir, and about 15 ambassadors - that cooperation between Egypt and Ecuador dates back to a long time, as there is a long history of cooperation between the two countries, and Ambassador Bentimea stressed the importance of the Ibero-American Culture Week hosted by the city of Alexandria, noting that it is the most important and largest event in which this number of Ibero-American countries participate. It promotes cultural cooperation, pointing to the position of the city of Alexandria as a global intellectual, cultural and civilizational center .

Health

On 30/12/2021, Ambassador Ashraf Abdel Qader Salama met with Dr. Ximena Grazon Villalba,  Ecuadorian Minister of Health, the meeting dealt with ways to strengthen bilateral relations between Egypt and Ecuador and the need to upgrade this cooperation, especially in the field of health care, in which Egypt has great and distinguished experiences, in addition to intensifying scientific and academic exchange and transferring experiences between them, the minister welcomed cooperation with Egypt in several fields, including the health sector, expressing her interest in finding an effective mechanism for the exchange of health information and data between officials of the two countries, as well as learning about the Egyptian experience in overcoming epidemics and diseases Chronic.
