President El-Sisi Inaugurates the Complex of Quartz Production Plants in Ain Al-Sokhna

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi witnessed, on Thursday 25-5-2023, the inauguration of the quartz production complex in Ain Al-Sokhna, in the Suez governorate.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli attended the inauguration alongside a number of ministers and top state officials.

The inauguration ceremony started with reciting some verses of Quran.

President El Sisi opened, via video-conference, a quartz primary crushing plant in Marsa Alam city, within the framework of opening a quartz production complex in Ain Al-Sokhna, in the Suez Canal.

The factory director Hossam Mohamed Anwar explained that the quartz crushing plant's production capacity stands at 140,000 tons annually.

Head of the Egyptian Company for Mining, Management and Exploitation of Quarries Abdel Salam Shafiq said the quartz production complex is a new great industrial addition to the state’s comprehensive development.

Shafiq noted that the Egyptian Company for Mining provides crude phosphate to fertilizer companies to yield 500,000 tons of production capacity per year. He also praised the establishment of six huge industrial complexes of marble and granite.

Shafiq explained that the project has one mine and five factories in Marsa Alam city. The mine has a reserve of 3.5 million tons. Two of the factories within the project yield a production capacity of 140,000 tons annually.

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi commented urging the government to remove all hindrances facing Egyptian and foreign investors in order to utilize opportunities that would enable boosting production and exports, lowering imports along with creating new job opportunities through injecting fresh investments.

The president said that the recently-inaugurated projects are open for prospective Egyptian and foreign investors as well as stock market investments.

He asserted the necessity of probing ways of manufacturing quartz by local components.

He added that the estimated cost of the three stages of the project stands at dollars 700 million, noting that feasibility studies of the project outlined the costs it would save by cutting down the imports as well the expected revenues of importing the output.


CEO Of ESRI Northeast Africa Hazem Hassan lauded the achievements realized by the Misr Mining Company with regard to developing its potentials in implementing several investment projects.

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi called on the Italian government to examine means of expediting the implementation of the remaining stages of the quartz production complex in Ain Al-Sokhna, in the Suez governorate.

El Sisi said Egypt is ready to communicate at the highest level with the Italian government to support investment in the remaining stages of the quartz production complex through pioneering Italian companies in this domain. 

He stressed Egypt's commitment to pay all needed funds for civil works and administrative procedures, thanking the private sector and investors in Egypt.

He said the feasibility study and data of the project show that it will realize great success and bring in huge revenues.

El- Sisi added that Egypt has the raw material that helps it to localize industry and cut imports. 

In a humanitarian spirit, President El Sisi fulfils a dream of a person with a disability of attending the inauguration of one the national projects being set up nationwide.

President of the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority (EMRA) Yaser Ramadan said the inauguration of the quartz production complex is the best example for optimizing the use of mineral wealth.

Ramadan reiterated that the Ministry of Petroleum has been tasked with maximizing the added value of mineral wealth, particular quartz, under Sisi’s directives to carry out the Sustainable Development Strategy (SDS): Egypt Vision 2030.

President El-Sisi urged the government to remove all obstacles facing the Egyptian mineral resources authority (EMRA) as well other similar institutions.

Luca Toncelli, President of Italian company Breton, said the quartz production factories in Egypt are the first of their kind in the world. 

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi made an inspection tour of Quartz production complex, where he stood on all details about the complex and the production stages.

The complex includes a quartz primary crushing factory which was set up on an area of 12,000 square meters with a production capacity of 140,000 tons annually.

The complex includes an area for storing quartz output in addition to a factory for producing quartz panels at a production capacity of 438,000 tons annually.About 40 percent of the complex's area is green landscape.

The president listened to Ibrahim Mahfouz, the official in charge to two coal factories in the complex, who explained the stage of the quartz production in the two factories.

During the inspection tour of Quartz production complex, El Sisi listened to a detailed presentation by Moustafa Hassan, who is in charge of the production line, on the production of high-quality quartz panels.

He explained that the quartz ore is being processed in four units, the first of which is of capacity of 2,400 meters and it takes 11 minutes.

Then the quartz mixture is unloaded in another unit to crush all blocs that could block the molding process.

He added that latest-of-the-art equipment is being used in the quartz production.

At the end of the tour, the President inspected an exhibition of the Egyptian Mining Company.
