Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat opened on Tuesday the Global Symposium for Regulators 2023 (GSR-23) which is held under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
The event - held in Egypt's Red Sea resort city of Sharm El Sheikh - is hosted by the National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) and organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin attended the event alongside a number of communications ministers and heads of delegations.
GSR-23 - under the theme “Regulation for a sustainable digital future”- will feature thematic sessions bringing together regulators, policy makers and other digital stakeholders from around the world and providing a global platform for knowledge exchange.
Built around interactive high-level panels on topical and cutting-edge policy and regulatory issues, GSR-23 provides regulators and policy-makers worldwide with a unique platform for discussions among peers and other digital stakeholders. It addresses novel regulatory approaches for digital transformation, digital infrastructure, online child and youth safety, digital accessibility, emergency public early warning systems, and the opportunities of the Metaverse, among others.
GSR-23 aims at exchanging views and experiences and studying the best regulatory practices. It focuses on defining regulatory and economic incentives to stimulate the deployment of digital infrastructure worldwide, especially in rural and underserved areas, and identifying the right incentives required to ensure the introduction of emerging ICT technologies and business models.
