Arab Common Market for Electricity to help achieve energy security

Egypt’s Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker stressed on Sunday 1st of October, 2023 that the Arab common market for electricity will contribute to reducing the cost of generating electrical energy in the area, lowering thermal radiations and achieving energy security.
Addressing the extraordinary session of the Arab Electricity Ministers Council that kicked off earlier in the day, Shaker made clear that the changes that took place in the global energy market over the past few years, including the coronavirus outbreak and the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, necessitated securing energy supplies for every country.
Within this respect, he underlined the importance of setting up more Arab electrical interconnection projects, saying such projects would pave the way for setting up an Arab common market for electricity to ensure sustainable energy.
He called for accelerating measures to activate the establishment of the Arab Common Market for Electricity.
He also urged exchanging expertize among Arab cadres to be able to address current challenges and optimize available opportunities in a way that guarantees the stability of energy market.
