President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi held meetings on Saturday 11/11/2023 with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan and King Abdullah II of Jordan.

The meetings took place on the sidelines of the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit in Riyadh in Riyadh that brought together Arab and Muslim leaders to unify efforts and adopt a collective position on developments in Gaza and the Palestinian territories.

‘Displacement of Palestinians’

During their meeting, El-Sisi and Al-Assad reiterated their rejection of attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause and forcibly displace the Palestinian people.

El-Sisi and King Abdullah also reaffirmed their rejection of the collective punishment of innocent people in Gaza by siege, starvation or displacement.

The Egyptian and Jordanian leaders said such policies violate international humanitarian law.

Ceasefire, two-state solution

El-Sisi and Al-Assad highlighted the need for a ceasefire in Gaza and guaranteed access to humanitarian aid for people in the strip.

They called for continuing efforts to establish an independent Palestinian state in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions.

El-Sisi and King Abdullah also agreed to continue pressuring the international community to responsibly de-escalate the crisis and ensure the delivery of aid to Gaza.

They underscored that regional stability can only be achieved when the Palestinian cause is settled justly and conclusively.

They added that this must take the form of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Syrian and Sudanese crises

In his meeting with Al-Burhan, El-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s support to Sudan at all levels, especially amid the critical circumstances that the Sudanese state is passing through.

Al-Burhan, for his part, hailed Egypt’s sincere and brotherly support for Sudan’s unity, integrity and stability and Egyptian efforts to host many Sudanese citizens.

Meanwhile, El-Sisi affirmed to Al-Assad Egypt’s support for a comprehensive political settlement in Syria that serves the interests of the Syrian people, maintains unity and integrity and restores security and stability to the country.

Gaza extraordinary summit

Arab and Muslim leaders gathered today in the Saudi capital while the unrelenting Israeli strikes have entered their fifth week despite global calls for a ceasefire.

Leaders at the summit have called for urgent delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, a ceasefire, and a holding of Israel accountable for its non-stop attacks.

In his speech at the summit, El-Sisi called on the UN Security Council to take decisive and concerted action to achieve a ceasefire and prevent the displacement of Palestinians.

The Egyptian president also demanded an investigation into all Israeli violations of international law.
