Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Naledi Pandor called on the business communities in Egypt and South Africa to seize available trade and investment opportunities.

This call came as Shoukry and Pandor co-chaired the 10th session of the Joint Committee between Egypt and South Africa in Pretoria on Friday 19/04/2024.

In press statements following the committee's meeting, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said the two ministers emphasized their countries' commitment to advancing bilateral relations and periodically holding the joint committee, which serves as the main mechanism for strengthening ties as per specific timetables.

The spokesman added that Shoukry stressed Egypt's willingness to foster relations with South Africa, especially in light of the two countries' great economic and trade potential.

The top Egyptian diplomat underlined the importance of taking concrete steps by the joint committee to push forward bilateral ties, in a way that benefits the two countries' peoples, the spokesman said.

Abu Zeid stated that the two ministers called for revitalizing the Egyptian-South African business council and activating cooperation between investment bodies and commercial chambers in both countries.

The pair expressed desire to take further steps for achieving economic integration and enhancing intra-African trade, through increasing cooperation between the existing regional economic blocs and activating the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement.

Two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) on cooperation in water resources and legal affairs were signed on the sidelines of the committee's meeting.
