During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to develop a cooperation protocol between Egypt and Nigeria in the fields of operating and maintaining water facilities, forecasting floods and droughts, harvesting rainwater, monitoring water quality, and strengthening the partnership between research centers in the two countries in the field of water management.

The two ministers also discussed the efforts of the African Council of Ministers of Water (AMCAW) in serving African countries, where Sweilem pointed to the Council’s role in enhancing cooperation to confront the water challenges facing the countries of the African continent, especially in light of the rapid growth of the population and the negative impact of climate change on water. Hani Sweilem stressed that Egypt is committed to supporting development in all African countries and accelerating the pace of progress in achieving sustainable development goals, especially the sixth goal related to the water sector.

Sweilem pointed to Egypt’s interest in providing the necessary training for Nigerian specialists in the field of water through the “African Center for Water and Climate Adaptation” launched by the AWARe initiative.
