Political relations
The Egyptian and Brazilian relations are characterized in their entirety by positive and cooperation in light of the continuous coordination at the bilateral level, especially with regard to important issues at the international level, including disarmament and non-proliferation issues, and the achievement of the goals of the second millennium, especially with regard to human rights in education, food and development, and support for the rights of the Palestinian people to achieve an independent state living in security and peace side by side with the State of Israel, and the views on many international political and economic issues are almost identical except for Some sensitive areas include the process of Security Council reform.
The cooperation between the two countries in recent years has been reflected directly in the exchange of support for candidates from the two countries for membership in international organizations and specialized committees in those organizations, and we highlight the following
- Brazil's support for the Egyptian candidacy for membership in the Human Rights Committee of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights for the period 2009-2011 in the elections held in New York on 4/9/2008.
- Brazil's endorsement of the Egyptian candidate for membership in the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights during the elections held at the Economic and Social Council in New York on April 29, 2008.
- Brazil supported the Egyptian draft resolution on the disarmament of weapons of mass destruction, especially nuclear weapons, during September 2008 at the International Atomic Energy Agency, and this support was particularly important in light of the passage of the draft resolution with only three votes. Brazil also participates with Egypt as a member of the "New Agenda Coalition for the Disarmament of Weapons of Mass Destruction" group.
Egypt has old relations with Brazil extending to the nineteenth century, where Egypt received the Brazilian ruler Emperor Tom Bodo VIII in 1876 and there was a rapprochement between the two countries in the fifties and sixties of the twentieth century within the framework of political movements such as "non-alignment", and economic such as the Group of 77.
The political relations between Egypt and Brazil are characterized by positive, understanding, and distinguished cooperation, over the past decades, and this is clearly shown in the consistency of vision regarding various international and regional issues, and in international institutions.
