194 mn cubic meters of water-saturated sand removed from new Suez Canal

Head of the Suez Canal Authority Mohab Mamish said a total of 194 million cubic meters of water-saturated sand have so far been lifted by 39 dredgers at the new Suez Canal lane project.

Mamish said the figure represents 75.3% of the target of 250,000 million cubic meters.

Executive director of dredging works at the project Wagdy Zaky said Dutch dredging company Van Oord will send its trailing suction hopper dredger "Utrecht", the largest in the world, will arrive on May 27 to join the dredging fleet working on the project.

Zaky said it has a working capacity of 100,000 cubic meters daily.
