Mahmoud Samy Al Baroudy

Mahmoud Samy Al-Baroudy was born on October 6, 1839 in Damanhour, Beheira governorate. His parents descended from a Circassian origin, and his grandparents were contractors of Itai Al-Baroud in Beheira governorate who were responsible for collecting taxes from its people.
 
Al-Baroudy is considered the pioneer of the modern Arab poetry who completely renovated the Arab poem.
 
His family had wealth and power; his father was a General in the Egyptian army and was assigned as the head of Berber and Dongola cities in Sudan. He died there when Al-Baroudi was seven years old.
 
His study
 
Al-Baroudy learnt reading and writing and memorized the Holy Qura’an. He also learnt the Arabic language, history and mathematics till he finished his elementary education in 1851.
 
When he was 12 years old, he joined the Military School in 1852. He studied the arts of war, religion, languages, mathematics and algebra. He was deeply interested in the Arab poetry and poets. He graduated in 1855 and joined the Ottoman army.
