In November 2009, Montevideo hosted the second round of negotiations between Egypt and the Mercosur, discussing the proposed Egyptian draft of an FTA agreement which was later to be signed in San Juan of Argentina in August 2010.

From 13-16 June, 2007, Assistant Minister for the Americas visited Uruguay to head the Egyptian side at regular round of political discussions between both countries.

The last Uruguayan official to visit Egypt was the Vice Foreign Minister in the year 2009. He went twice, the first in 2-3 March to head the Uruguayan side at the regular round of political consultations and the second on 15-16 July in which he headed the Uruguayan delegation to the Non- Aligned Summit in Sharm EL-Sheikh.
