Egypt is one of the first countries which recognized Kazakhstan’s independence in December 1991, after the collapse of the former Soviet Union. Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in April 1992.

Leaders of the two countries are always keen to exchange messages of congratulations on different occasions at the levels of the Presidents, Prime Ministers, or Ministers of Foreign Affairs,. It is worth noting here the friendly relationship between Presidents Mubarak and Nazarbayev.

Both countries support each other nominations for different international postings. Besides, Kazakhstan always supports the Egypt’s stances on different international issues. Egypt as well supports Kazakhstan's initiatives on the international level, especially Kazakhstan President’s initiative to hold the conference of Leaders of International and Traditional Religions. There is also continuous cooperation between delegations of both countries in international organizations, especially the United Nations.
