Egypt has welcomed the inauguration of Afghanistan's new President Ashraf Ghani, who assumed power in a democratic and transparent transition.

Egypt said "Hopefully, this would be a positive step toward restoring stability in Afghanistan".

Egypt also expressed hope that the new leadership in Afghanistan would succeed in meeting the aspirations of the people, eliminating terrorism and achieving development.
